Four Season Landscapes

August 12, 2022Andrew SavinsonSeasonal Tips

Four season landscapes look great every day of the year!

As you look out from the kitchen window in winter,  the evergreens and hollies are spectacular in the snow. Come spring, the daffodils, azaleas and cherry trees are in full bloom. As you relax, entertain and play games in the back yard in summer, the garden is full of color. Come fall, the trees are a blaze of yellows, oranges and reds, while the shrubs become laden with berries.

Four season landscapes require some planning and plantings. perennial

For spring color, plant drifts of bulbs in the fall to bloom the following year. Add spring flowering shrubs like azaleas, lilacs, and viburnums, and a few choice flowering trees (dogwoods, cherries, apples).

For summer, concentrate on annuals in beds and pots, perennials in the gardens, and some summer flowering shrubs such as butterfly bush, and roses.

For the fall, plant burning bush, maples, and perennials that bloom late such as asters and chrysanthemums.winter-jpg

In the winter enjoy red twig dogwood, coral stemmed maple, ornamental grasses, hollies and the beautiful structure of evergreens like firs, and spruces.

Supplement your plantings with a good structure of paths, an emerald lawn, a patio or deck for entertaining, benches, and a few choice garden ornaments.  Add a water feature, rock garden, herb garden, ground covers and some screening plantings for privacy, and you can cancel that trip to Europe and enjoy your wonderful home all year round!

So lets get going on your four season landscape!  Call us for a design consultation today!
