'Elegant Environments for Your Home'

Topics of Interest: The importance of mulching your landscape

Mulching your plantings will save on watering in hot weather, and help to stifle weeds.

We recommend double shredded hardwood bark mulch for shrubs, and 'mushroom soil' for flower beds.

A 2 or 3 inch coating of 'mushroom soil' will protect the roots of  perennials from being heaved out of the ground from repeated frosts and thaws in winter, as well as gently feeding the plants into the early summer.

Roses should be mulched in winter with 12-16 inches of double shredded hardwood bark mulch.  Pull the mulch back, feed (use Rose-tone), and prune your roses in mid March.

All your other shrubs should be fed first with either 'Hollytone' (for acid loving evergreens) or 'Plant-tone', and then mulched with 2 inches of bark mulch.  This should be done every 1-2 years and with all new plantings.

Mulching not only looks good but it keeps your shrubs and flowers protected throughout the year.  You will have healthier plants, and spend less time on watering and weeding.

Creative Landscapes includes mulching and feeding in all landscape estimates!
