Sustainable Landscaping – Improving the Environment

Sustainable Landscaping is a new term describing landscaping that benefits the environment, uses less resources and is lower maintenance than regular landscaping.

The idea is to design and install landscapes that have a benefit for the environment, while not causing harm to living organisms or natural resources such as water, air and soil.

At Creative Landscapes we incorporate sustainable landscaping principles and practices into our work.

Here are some of the “sustainable” practices we utilize:

Adding natural and organic nutrients to soils to benefit the health of plants.

Using organic, natural, and biodegradable fertilizers, herbicides and insecticides, and only as needed.

Using low maintenance plants, such as Native Plants, which are well suited to the environment,  needing less water, and very little if any fertilizers and pesticides.

Planting a diverse palette of plant material, helping to keep nature in balance.

Planting to provide food and shelter for birds.

Composting waste material into usable soil. Recycling plastic pots.

Preparing vegetable and herb gardens with organic materials for abundant crops.

Redirecting water from downspouts to reduce runoff.

Planting shade trees to cool down homes and reduce energy bills.
